UK Artists Team Up For Take Your Time

In more urban meets dance news, Rivmixx favourite Carl Carni has teamed up with UK rapper Taz for a reworking of Guru Josh Project's 'Infitiy 2008', which will be retitled 'Take Your Time' for the pair's 2010 version.

It looks unlikely that the track will be released as a single just yet, given that only a hood video has surfaced so far. Premiering on Grime Daily today, the street video features both UK MCs, backdropped by the London Eye and some urban grafitti.

UK urban music fans will remember Taz as the producer of Dizzee Rascal's early hit 'Just A Rascal', his Kardinal Offishal 2004 collaboration 'Cowboy Film" and his Def Jam released debut album, 'Analyse This'. After teaming up with Carl Carni, the pair are working on a 'London 2 Las Vegas' project, which has seen them sign a distribution deal with Vegas based On Blast Entertainment. The pair will also be embarking on a Uni Tour throughout March.

We called Carni today to chat about the 'Take Your Time' street video, this is what he told us:

"We shot the street video in January to get it out there quickly and get that street buzz moving for our 'London 2 Las Vegas' project. It's a good look, so watch this space."

There has been a huge rise in the popularity of hood videos - videos made without a big budget, no frills, just used to showcase a track - since sites like Grime Daily (the site that is hosting the 'Take Your Time' video) and SB.TV have made hood videos credible again. Gone are the days of mocking low budget videos (the type we used to laugh at on Channel U, before its slight switch to Channel AKA). The importance of these videos as promotional tools are now recognised by artists. It can be very costly to produce a rap music video to MTV standards and so urban artists are tending to put out both, depending on the market of each particular track.

Carl Carni is a case in point for this method. His slick 'On 2 Me' video hit the MTV top ten and his follow up 'Boasy Pose' looks likely to do the same on its release, if the video is anything to go by (we've had a sneaky peak, trust us). But in the meantime, street videos are a great way to keep putting his tracks and name out there.
